What is Gicle?
Gicle is a reproduction method. It uses special printers that can print directly on canvas or art quality paper. In our case, we use a printer that has piezoelectric print heads, instead of thermal print heads, resulting in a much better print. In addition, the printer we use has 6 colors (non artwork large format printers usually have only 4 colors), resulting in a broader color gamut representation.

Gicle reproductions are created using canvas or paper. The quality of the canvas/paper is also an important factor. We only use special media, properly designed for use with fine art printers. The ink is a high quality pigmented-ink, with high UV resistance, ensuring that the colors will not fade away.

We use a combination of ink and canvas that is waterproof. Most limited editions are printed using water-based inks, and by consequence, are extremely sensible to any kind of water or humidity. We use a pigment-based ink, on a special coated canvas, resulting in a waterproof reproduction. In addition, special varnishing coats are applied to the canvas, to increase the overall resistance of the reproduction, giving it a unique look. Of course, as any other artwork, care should be taken when handling the piece.

What is a Limited Edition?
A limited edition is a control to ensure that only a specific number of reproductions will be created. All works are made using Gicle printing, and are signed, numbered, and have a certificate of authenticity.

You can identify it usually by a numbering method such as 6/100, meaning that this is the sixth reproduction of a total of 100. In the past, when the reproduction methods depended on the source life span, the relative order of the copy was a concern. This is not the case for gicle print where all reproductions have the same quality, regardless of the relative number position of the print.

What is Gallery Wrapped Canvas?
It is a stretching method, using heavy-duty stretch bars. Heavy-duty stretch bars are ticker than the normal stretch bars. Because they are wider, we can have a painted canvas area on the side of the stretch bar, with the painted canvas extending over it (instead of showing a white border). As a result, you have an artwork ready to hang on the wall, without the need for framing.

Because the canvas is wrapped around the stretch bars, it gives a depth perception and impact when hung on the wall.

What is a Rolled Canvas?
It is exactly the same reproduction used on the stretched ones, but it is not stretched over the bars. It is shipped in a tube, reducing the cost for shipping and handling. Any frame shop in your area will be able to stretch it. Unless requested, It does not have the same extra width as the gallery wrapped canvas, and it is to be used with standard thickness stretch bars. It has a margin of at least 2 inches, allowing an easy stretch.
